I used HostGator for many years, and unfortunately, my experience was frustrating. My website experienced frequent downtime, sometimes lasting several hours, which hurt both traffic and business. Customer support responses were slow and often scripted, without truly resolving the issue. While their pricing seemed competitive at first, the renewal rates were much higher than expected and even charged me after I switched hosting services. In the end, I decided to switch hosting providers, and I would not recommend HostGator to those needing reliable uptime or responsive support.

I recently migrated 2 websites from one hosting plan at Hostgator to another hosting plan at Hostgator. The purpose was to have all 4 of my websites in one place. It has been almost 2 weeks now and my sites are still offline. I have made 8 calls over the last two weeks and every time I call I am assured that everything is good to go and that my sites will be back online in 24 hours. Two weeks now and 8 calls of bad information has not made my websites available. If I had money - I would pack up and leave Hostgator in a heartbeat.

HostGator just charged me $144 for an ssl fee that was apparently set to auto-renew, even though my domain name was cancelled almost a year ago. My domain doesn’t exist, but I get charged an ssl fee. They won’t refund me. Extremely shady. It’s amazing that this company hasn’t gone under yet.

HOSTGATOR STOLE MY MONEY ❗❗. Update and warning to the community ⚠ ⚠. After two weeks, they couldn't activate my domain. They wanted to ask for personal documents like my passport and proof of address to activate it (a total red flag 🚩🚩🚩. I've bought many domains and I know those documents aren't necessary). They told me it was the reseller's problem, the payment provider's problem... they said it was everyone's problem except their own. They also didn't offer me any alternative solutions. When I asked for a refund because they had delayed my project, they told me they couldn't give me my money back because their "policies" don't give refunds to people who paid by wire transfer or Upay (deposits at ATMs and stores). The truth is, those policies only benefit them. It's not difficult at all to deposit my money into my bank account. It's really not difficult at all, but they decided not to provide me with good service and then not to give me my money, keeping it for themselves. I used these channels to publicize to the entire community that HostGator violates and abuses its users instead of helping them do something simple like getting a domain and a website. I tried to resolve it using their technical support. When I saw that they had no intention of helping me, I felt abused as a consumer who trusted them. I hope it never happens to anyone again because it was two weeks of exchanging messages, tickets, and emails. Two exhausting, tiring weeks, full of frustration and confusion where HostGator played with my mental health. If you’re a freelancer or small business owner trying to launch a project, I highly suggest avoiding this provider. You’ll lose time, money, and peace of mind.

HostGator used to have some of the best support in the hosting industry. I’ve been a loyal customer for years, even running a dedicated server with them. Unfortunately, those days are over. Support is virtually non-existent now. If you run into an issue, you're completely on your own. It's frustrating, disappointing, and unacceptable for the price you pay for a dedicated server. Sadly, it’s time to move away from HostGator.

Terrible product / support. Service has steadily declined over the years whilst costs simply keep going up. Chat support is poor - rarely understand the issue or can fix it. Can't even answer basic questions. Have routinely been told "not our hosting" when it is. No ticket system and no phone support. What is a 10 minute call with a competent technician elsewhere is a 1-2 hour zero result with HostGator. cPanel functions commonly available elsewhere removed from this platform. My clients commonly report no access to site or e-mail servers on block lists. Zero care from HostGator. Currently cannot access any sites or mail unless we use VPN. Not receiving the service we paid for. Avoid.

This company is not screwing their customers. i have been a client with them for the last 12+years, paying every months, and now they sent me a bill that doubled in price, and refuse to explain except ''we try to provide great customer service and our prices are fair in the industry'' Well let me tell you, they are NOT fair at all. This company is probably owned by people in Israel. and they can go choke on a fat piece of bacon. .!..

Please sort these reviews by newest! For the past two years, HostGator's average review is 1.2. Any average you see higher than that is based on reviews over three years old, and their ratings have been on a rapid decline since 2018 (much like their service). Double charges, gaslighting customer service, unreliable uptime, ever-slowing servers, outdated software versions (such as PHP) running on the platform, and general untrustworthiness. As a website designer, I have about 160 domains with them and more than 200 websites. When this company was Texas-based, it was good. Ever since they were consumed, it's been a downhill rollercoaster ride. Lately, they have been double charging me for domains. It's real obvious. You can show customer service the duplicate charges. They either refuse to do anything about it, or send a refund up their chain of command, only to have someone else squash the refund.
