It's free, the ruins are quite impressive. The museum is shut on Mon/Tue which is when I went so I guess I missed some of the experience. Picnic benches around so it's a chill place to have some lunch in-between visiting all the other cool stuff in the area.

Another lovely piece of history located in also a lovely part of the world. Quite a lot of the ruins still remain of the palace and indeed as many other reviews have mentioned, would be perfect location to go to on a sunny day for a picnic. In fact, just across the road from the palace is a pub. Entry is also free, parking appears to be quite ample and I would suggest if you enjoy history to pay this site a visit. I've also added a photo of me to give you some context of how big some of the ruins are!

Gorgeous place, beautiful grounds and some very interesting ruins, as well as the museum available at the weekend from lunchtime. Lots of information about the different parts of the palace and the history of it. Plenty of picnic benches too, perfect for a spot of lunch! Free to enter too, so even more to recommend it!!

The palace ruins are interesting and well worth visiting. However access to the site by foot from the town centre is very poor and unsafe with a busy B road that lacks any pedestrian crossings, yet has busy motor traffic at speed at most times of day. Quite astonishing that the council hasn't seen fit to install even a single pedestrian crossing! Unfortunately access to the site is therefore dangerous. Yet another case of acute British Car Brain! If this site was in a normal European country they would make it safe and pleasant to get to, but we're British! Fumes, motor death and heart attacks over quality of life! Wordsworth would have been proud
