We visited the Castle and Poet today with a friend and our 3 dogs and were made very welcome by the new landlady Vicky and her partner Paul and their staff. We sampled the garden menu, I had the burger and my wife had the scampi and we thought we were going to struggle to eat the very generous portions, our friend has quite strict dietary restrictions at the moment and they couldn’t have done more to make sure that she was catered for. Our dogs were made very welcome and even had a run around in the communal field behind the pub. I would definitely recommend visiting, we will certainly be back soon to sample the indoor menu!

Brilliant staff food amazing I had vegetarian curry beautiful my partner had the cheese flatbread she said its the best she as had. Lovely pub view outside the back fantastic we will be definitely going back thank you everyone it's like bein with family as soon as we walked in the ladies behind the bar welcomed us great staff again thank you.

The poet and castle is a great country pub. And definitely well worth a visit. It has a excellent selection of real ales and ciders along with a very good choice of wines. They have a very good beer garden with views of open countryside. And a children's play area next to the pub . With access through a gate to the side of the beer garden. Children are safe to play there and parents can also keep an eye on them with out having to worry. It's very close to codnor castle as seen on the TV series time team. The staff are excellent and very very helpful. If you're passing take a look. You will be happy you did.
