The Chestnut Inn

If you are looking for a quiet stay on an sparkling clean lake, this place is perfect. Its a beautiful old building, built in 1927 featuring beautiful Chestnut wood. The bathrooms are updated but the rooms are close to original. The staff is kind and friendly. The chef is excellent! We very much enjoyed our stay.

I was pleasantly surprised by the setting at chestnut inn. It was a beautiful day to enjoy dinner overlooking the lake. Peaceful and serene. A nice little hidden gem. We had dinner at the restaurant. I had the mussels dish as I wanted to eat something light. The sauce was delicious, I substituted the fries for mashed potatoes and it paired well. My family were staying at the hotel so we got to take a peek at the rooms. The suite was cozy, clean, and love the Pendleton vibe. I would definitely come back.

We reserved and paid for a Deluxe room with lake view at least 6 days before arriving. We were given a room facing the back of the building with a view of peeling paint and a roof. The front desk did not even attempt to apologize. (This was reserved yesterday. NOT). Mildew smelling blankets, pillows. Dirty towel and VERY creaky floors above us. A call to Hotels.com did not rectify. AVOID.

The hotel is lovely and picturesque. Unfortunately, that is where the accolades end. We had dinner at the restaurant, which was mediocre at best, with a menu that was uninspired and overtly greasy. That said, the worst part of our stay was that there was NO air flow in our bedroom. The large AC unit in the living area did not translate to the bedroom and we were unable to sleep due to the excessive heat and stuffiness. After being up for hours, we decided to text Charity, as her name was provided if we needed anything overnight. We requested a fan and not only did she not respond that evening, but we never received a text response at all. My husband ended up on the couch, but it was the worst night's sleep either one of us had in ages. When I reached out to the hotel the next day, I was told the manager, Adam, would be in touch by Tuesday. When I didn't hear by Thursday, I sent him an email with details of our experience. When I didn't receive a response to my email, I called him again the following week (both times I spoke with Rochelle, who was lovely and sympathetic). Almost 3 weeks later, I have received no response (although I recently received a $100 Amex credit - I paid $440 for the room for reference) and I am shocked that a hotel this revered has zero customer service. As a loyal customer to the Settler Hospitality brand, having stayed at Settlers Inn and Hotel Anthracite in the past several times, this experience was far below my expectations. The lack of concern for their hotel guests is truly shocking. Needless to say, I recommend seeking alternate accommodations in the Deposit area.

This was not worth over $400 for one night. Upon arrival, everything seemed as described. But the room had a loud monstrosity of an air-conditioner in the middle of the sitting room. We couldn't hear each other speak. We were given a key to our room AND a key to the front door of the entire inn as all the staffing leaves at night. We stepped out for a wedding for a few hours, and when we returned around 7:30pm, there were cars packed in the lot and up the drive. There was no place to park at all. The front door to the Inn was wide open, the porch, deck, and sitting lobby were filled with people who were obviously partying. Even though we were paying guests, we had zero access to relax and enjoy the lake or the Inn. After a few hours more, the loud party parted in the most obnoxious drunken way, leaving us without sleep. The next morning we tried to start fresh and go down for tea by the lake. There was no tea nor coffee made. Other overnight guests were milling about waiting for coffee as well. We decided to go outside and wait but the porch and deck were an absolute mess from the party the night before. There was no place clean to sit. By 7:30am we just left. The Chestnut Inn had absolutely nothing to offer. We called and emailed repeatedly to complain and resolve the issue and have received NO response. I would never come back to this inn, nor will I ever recommend it as a place to stay.

We actually had early dinner there and unfortunately there’s no room available for last minute booking since it was the weekend and also there’s lumberjack festival.. we enjoyed the food, the service as well as the amazing lake view! Live Music started from 5pm and it was great!

We absolutely loved our stay! The rooms were very clean and quiet. The location is obviously beautiful. The food and drinks were delicious and the service was great! We will definitely be back sometime!

We stayed here during a visiting weekend for French Woods camp. It exceeded expectations. The restaurant was excellent, setting is beautiful, we even fit in a canoe ride before we left for home. Ended up joining another group for a sing a long at the piano in the bar area. Staff also saved me by sending home our stuffed bear that my daughter left behind in the room ( this saved me). We will be back next year.
